Several months back Michael Lee (myspace.com/michaelleeacoustic) and I discussed recording some music in his apartment. So he stuck some microphones in my vicinity and we came up with 12 tracks of songs I’ve been keeping to myself for a while. Michael Lee, Dan Masquelier, and Mark Robertson all helped with the instrumentation and production. On Friday November 6th, the self-titled album will be available at our Cafe Coda show and online. I am lucky enough to be in Chico for a week. I’ve had strong coffee from Empire, swam at Upper Park, and have had a delightful feeling of insatiable boredom that I treat as a welcoming luxury. I have been back east for the last few weeks and I’ve done minimally productive things in the conventional sense, but very productive activities in other senses, like watching the Mets and eating watermelon in the park. Well our musical journey of the west coast ended appropriately in Chico last night. It was shared with the Perpetual Drifters and Amber Lee who put on entertaining sets. I want to thank everyone for their support for this tour, everyone that gave us places to sleep and food to eat, and the receptive support of coming out to shows. None of this would have happened if it weren’t for your kindness. And thanks to my friends and band mates: Mark, Bob, Scott, Matt, Cody, and Dan for having faith in all these adventures I’ve put together.

We are some of the luckiest people on Earth. As the tour draws to a close, we continue to be put up in beautiful homes by amazing people. Thank you so much to the Reynolds and Robertson families for having us and for treating us so well. At Mark and Bob’s houses we played games, ate bacon, and caught up with assorted animals who we missed very much…even Inkfar (one of the Robertson’s cats). Mark’s parents knew exactly what I needed when I walked into their backyard, two large hunks of cave-aged cheese which the whole band devoured. We didn’t get to watch any T.V. on tour, but that changed once we got to Bob’s and began the late night tradition of watching at least 2-3 episodes of late-night Roseanne per night.

Last night, we played an energetic show at Cafe Cordiale in Sherman Oaks. The support we were met with at that show was so amazing, and we genuinely appreciate everyone who came out and watched us play. We only have a few more days left to cruise in the Suburban and meet new people, and we’re excited to head to Santa Barbara tonight. Stay tuned.

Night Basketball

We are now relaxing in LA at Mark and Bob’s houses. We have a couple days off before we play here on Wednesday and move up the coast for our last 4 shows. We have lots of time during the day and night to dedicate to the more sacred, timeless activities of life, like night basketball. We played Horse and Scott lost with a rather large margin of letters between himself and his opponents. He showed inward disgust and pretended like “it was just a game,” when we all know it is much more than that. Below are two pictures that show the disparities of emotions concerning all of our traveling. Scott described the picture of me as being similar to an alien being born. I didn’t think that was too nice. Well this tour is almost through and it has been beyond our expectations. The last 4 shows will be in LA, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, and lastly in Chico. I hope you can make it out.

Burban Fever

We’ve traveled hundreds of miles together in the Suburban, and at this point everything is unnecessarily funny. In this state of Burban fever delirium, I’ve reflected upon the past few shows with giddy excitement. Our show in San Francisco with Tippy Canoe and the Corner Laughers was delighted by our friends Matt, trumpet, and Brett, flute. We sang a huge collective song during Tippy’s set to end the show which felt like a true finale to a great evening of music. Sebastapol, however, carries a much different story line as we were told by the owner that our level of loud was scaring away the non-existent customers in their restaurant. The increased volume that continued on our parts symbolized our passive aggressive tendencies as well as our youthful deviance. We had our best show of the tour last night in Davis at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen. I attribute it to the spiked Mai Thai that coursed through my veins during the set. Now we are in Chico! And we go down south tomorrow for the last week…
